School of Excellence

West Riding FA has an extremely successful Referee School of Excellence. The School is designed to benefit those referees who have been identified as having the potential to progress their careers and to develop into better match officials.

20 match officials from across our County have been identified as having the potential to develop into the professional game. These referees form our School of Excellence, which is led by Andy Madley, a National List referee who is actively involved at that level.

In order for each member to develop, they undergo a strict fitness programme with periodic tests which are carried out to professional standards. In addition, 1-1 mentoring is conducted with an assigned coach, as well as receiving presentations from sports science professionals, Premier League & /Fifa match officials, dieticians and injury prevention specialists.

Referees from our School of Excellence are given the opportunity to travel the world representing West Riding County FA, whilst also developing their skills. In recent years, referees ranging from Level 4 to 7 have refereed some of the best youth football teams in the world at tournaments in Portugal and Denmark.

We firmly believe that this is the best support network for referees ever to exist in our region.
