Future Lioness Goalkeeping Centre

The Future Lioness Goalkeeping Centre, managed by the West Riding Girls League, is one of 11 across England.

The Centres offer a specialised goalkeeping support programme to female goalkeepers with talent and potential, who play in a variety of different playing environments.

The centres also provide coach development opportunities for aspiring coaches with the aim of developing a Goalkeeping Coach workforce for all levels of the Women’s game.

Girls attending a Future Lionesses Goalkeeping Centre can still register and play competitively for their club team, the centre simply provides an additional unique goalkeeping experience once a week.

Goalkeepers can be recommended or invited to attend the centre through a number of ways, including a referral through the FA Discover My Talent Programme, from regional FA Talent Technical Coaches (TTC), an FA Talent Reporter, club coaches, club officials, referees and others. In some cases, a selection process may also take place.

The Future Lionesses Goalkeeping Centre programme typically runs from September – May and provides one session per week lasting 1.5 hours (classroom and pitch).

The goalkeepers will develop their understanding of the England Goalkeeping DNA, receive 6 weekly feedback and will be provided with a ‘Player Learning Log’, whilst our coaches will have the opportunity to develop through mentorship, become part of a ‘Community of Goalkeeping Coaches’ and receive specific online CPD on a bi-monthly basis.

As well as the above, the West Riding centre also offers an opportunity for any female keeper of any ability in their ‘Development’ group which runs alongside the High-Performance group.

West Riding County Leagues Rep Club

In 2022, the West Riding Girls League, in partnership with West Riding County FA, created the West Riding County Leagues Rep Club which included 3 teams at U12, U14 & U16s.

For the 23/24 season, the league has now increased this to 7 teams from U10s all the way to U17s.

Players are recruited via trials during the summer and are then offered a place in the squads for two seasons. The girls can be playing in any team/league so long as this is based in West Riding.

Training takes place every 3 weeks on Sundays at West Riding County FA HQ and a minimum of 6 fixtures are arranged with the opposition ranging from girls and boys’ grassroots to ETC’s and other County Rep teams from around the country.

TRIALS

The West Riding Girls League will be hosting their County Leagues Rep Squad trials this June (2024).
