RIP Fred Watson
RIP Fred Watson
It is with great sadness that the West Riding County FA were recently informed of the death of Wharfedale District Football Association Committee Member and Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior League Results Secretary, Fred Watson.
Like so many other parents Fred got involved in managing and coaching a team when his son Alan started playing aged 10.
The boys played for Guiseley Dynamo where their mother Olwyn also became involved.
Olwyn and Fred were both elected to the Management Committee of the Craven, Aire and Wharfe Junior League, Olwyn followed League Founder, the late Allan Cawood, as Fixture Secretary, a position she holds to this day.
Fred was elected to the Wharfedale District Football Association where he served for 28 years. He was the representative of the District Association on the League Management Committee.
For many years Fred refereed all levels of football but was also to be found at matches where he represented the League and the Association.
He helped with the staging of the annual cup finals and every Sunday manned the phone to receive results.
Many people from League clubs have expressed their appreciation of Fred and have sent their condolences to Olwyn and her family.
The Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior League have made a webpage for people to send their well wishes to the family.
