iCanPlay: Rachel Daly Q&A

Rachel got involved at her local grassroots club Killinghall Nomads and she now represents England and plays for Houston Dash in the USA

Tell us about how and why you got involved in playing football?

My dad and brother played from a young age and I always wanted to replicate them.

I went to watch both of their matches every weekend and would be the first on the pitch at half-time shooting the ball into the goal.

Who have you played football for and who do you play for now?

Killinghall Nomads JFC boys & girls

Leeds United Ladies Centre of Excellence & First Team

Lincoln Ladies

St. John’s University

Houston Dash (who I play for now)

England National Team

From grassroots to greatness: A young Rachel Daly playing for Killinghall Nomads

What do you enjoy about playing football?

Football is my life, it is all I have ever wanted to do.

From a young age my dream was to one day be a professional footballer and to live my dream every single day is something I have worked so hard for.

When I am playing football, it is the only time I don’t think about anything else.

The football pitch is my happy place and every day I get another chance to make my family proud!

Who are your role models in football?

Growing up it was always Kelly Smith & Mark Viduka.

What are your greatest achievements in playing football and why?

Representing England is the greatest honour for me and my family.

Singing the national anthem while playing the game I love, in front of my family is what I have dreamed of my whole life.

Making my family proud is my biggest life achievement.

Represent England for as long as I possibly can.

What are the biggest obstacles you have faced in playing football?

Living a million miles away from my family.

What advice would you give to people thinking about getting involved in playing football?

DO IT! Work hard every single day, in silence, and do it with a smile on your face!
