History made with first Girls Futsal League!
West Riding FA alongside the West Yorkshire Futsal League have created the region’s first Girls Futsal League!
Women and girls across the county will benefit from this new partnership, which provides a tailored pathway to encourage female participation within grassroots football.
Sunday 26 November 2023 saw the official launch of West Yorkshire Futsal League’s girls-only competition, which took place at Spen Valley High School in Kirklees. The opening match day saw 10 teams compete from U10 – U15, and all teams played their part in creating such a fantastic atmosphere.

The league is looking to grow and offer Futsal to women and girls of all ages and abilities. If you haven’t yet tried Futsal yet, you are missing out!
John Caven of the West Yorkshire Futsal League said:
“This partnership will provide opportunities for female players, coaches, and officials to experience Futsal in an environment dedicated to the needs of women and girls.
"This league provides another opportunity for female teams within West Riding to see what futsal is all about, it allows the girls to showcase their skills in a setting which is dedicated to supporting their needs.
"This first season will provide the foundations for our league. We will ensure we match the enthusiasm and growth for girls futsal with West Riding FA, and we will ensure that continue to support the needs of women and girls with our region.”
Connah Joyce of the West Yorkshire Futsal League said:
“This is an exciting time for women and girls within West Yorkshire. Futsal is about to explode across the country and will soon become easily recognised and celebrated for what it is, a blend of skill, technique, teamwork, energy, and best of all impervious to all negative outside elements.
“John and I have huge ambitions for the West Yorkshire Futsal League and aim to provide an environment recognised as one of the best in the country.”
