Referees walking out at Wembley

West Riding

Centre of Refereeing Excellence

West Riding FA Centre of Refereeing Excellence (CORE) is an exciting refereeing structure that aims to provide a number of aspiring referees with training, education and development opportunities delivered both centrally and across a number of regional locations, to aid progression to the higher levels of the game.

As a County FA we are here to support all levels of referees who want to progress as a referee.

The 2024/25 season will see us running both a development programme as well as CORE, providing development opportunities to referees from Level 7 to Level 4.
FA National CORE

FA CORE is a programme for those referees who can demonstrate they have the clear potential to progress in refereeing, regardless of gender, age or area of the county they are from. Successful participation in a local level CORE group could result in progression to the FA National Core Group.

Referees involved in FA National CORE should possess (among other aspects) the appropriate levels of:

  • Focus and Commitment
  • Enthusiasm to progress
  • Developing on-field performances
  • Off-field attitude
  • Professionalism
  • Fitness

Referees will benefit from a season long programme in which The FA will provide them with a trained, motivated and accredited Referee Coach who will be their individual point of contact throughout their time in FA CORE at their specific tier of the structure. There will be five tiers of the FA CORE programme providing training, education, development and coaching for Referees from level 7 to level 4.
